Hydrogen as an alternative to fossil fuels

While our REXH2 and GEH2 are traveling across France to demonstrate their decarbonization potential in maritime and terrestrial applications, EODev is also at the forefront of the promotion of hydrogen as an alternative to fossil fuels in numerous conferences and workshops about the energy transition. Here's a brief overview of our French Tour in recent months.

After a presentation on 17th March during the winter days of the University of Dunkirk for a conference on: "Ports and Maritime Transport - New fuels and cleanliness of the oceans" organized by the Endowment Fund e5t and the Institut Supérieur de Commerce International de Dunkerque - Côte d'Opale ; after having won the 2021 Oceans Innovation Trophies organized by the Banque Populaire Grand Ouest group in April ; and after welcoming many schools and visitors during the Paris de l'Hydrogène alongside Energy Observer in May, in addition to having illuminated the Eiffel Tower thanks to our GEH2 — events to find more about on our LinkedIn page for regular monitoring — the EODev teams continued their educational mission over the summer and fall.

Hydrogen at the heart of the energy transition

It was first during the Vivatech trade fair in Paris on June 15-16, during which, at the invitation of Microsoft, Anaïs Toro-Engel for Energy Observer, and Balthazar Deguine for EODev, were able to take center stage to detail our innovations and explain how the data feedback available with the use of our GEH2 and REXH2 made it possible to work on optimizing their performance.

It was then as part of the "Choose France Smart & Sustainable Mobility" event organized at Le Castellet the following week, during the Formula 1 French Grand Prix, that Jérémie Lagarrigue, CEO of EODev, had the opportunity to participate in a round table in the company of numerous players in the hydrogen sector, to discuss both green hydrogen production, uses and regulations.

As events piled up, the next stage was set in Monaco, as part of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge at the beginning of July, where Bastien Bornand, from our Energy Designer office, delivered a keynote speech on the evolution of alternative fuels, to open the conference dedicated to clean solutions for propulsion in the maritime sector. EODEv's Commercial Director Stéphane Jardin also participated (see related article HERE); while Jérémie Lagarrigue spoke at the second round table on hydrogen organized by the Monegasque authorities as part of the mission for the energy transition in the Principality.

A hyperactive return to school

With summer coming to an end, we were back in Dunkirk at the beginning of September, for the 8th edition of the Territories Hydrogen Days, organized by France Hydrogène with the Hauts-de-France region, the Urban Community of Dunkirk, Euraénergie and Pôlenergie, an event bringing together manufacturers, researchers, local authorities and institutions. Next was a return visit to Le Mans on September 21st for the 3rd Le Mans Métropole hydrogen symposium on the initiative of its Mayor-President Stéphane Le Foll, in partnership with France Hydrogène and the Automobile Club de l'Ouest. The guest of honor of this 3rd edition was none other than Victorien Erussard, President and founder of Energy Observer, who highlighted the role of local authorities in the deployment of hydrogen. He notably shared his experience acquired aboard the eponymous vessel and detailed the virtues of hydrogen to meet the needs of the maritime and river sector. During the round table dedicated to territorial ecosystems, Jérémie Lagarrigue recalled that, while emphasis is often placed on land mobility, maritime uses are crucial for the viability of such projects as they gather big consumers of energy, and are therefore potentially very large consumers of hydrogen.

At the conclusion of these six months of interventions, conferences, round tables and presentations across many regions, the presence of Stéphane Jardin at the Hydrogen Business for Climate Forum in Belfort on September 29 and 30 was an opportunity to discuss the medium and long term hydrogen market opportunities, whilst the presence of Jérémie Lagarrigue at the Orbimob forum organized by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region on October 11th in Clermont-Ferrand brought to the fore explanations on the ambitions of hydrogen and the democratization of its uses.

It should be noted that the presence of EODev is not limited to the French borders or to the Principality of Monaco, even if, given health restrictions, various interventions could only be carried out by videoconference. With the improvement of the Covid-19 situation, the team will be able to resume its educational mission beyond France, first with participation in a round table during METSTrade, the boating equipment and manufacturers' fair held in Amsterdam from November 15th to 18th, where the REXH2, a finalist of the DAME Awards for Innovation in the maritime field, will be in the spotlight ; followed by a participation at the Boat International Design Festival in Milan from December 1st to 3rd in a round table devoted to the questions of integration of alternative solutions in the design of yachts.

As the agenda for 2022 is already filling up fast, with an increased international presence, do not hesitate to join us on the social networks LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram for more information on EODev's interventions at such events and to follow our news.
