REXH₂: Marine hydrogen power generator for zero-emission onboard energy
REXH₂ is a marine hydrogen power generator designed to produce electricity onboard without emissions or noise. Built for maritime and inland waterway applications, it addresses the need to decarbonize marine transport while ensuring a reliable and continuous power supply.
This modular, plug-and-play onboard solution integrates easily into various types of vessels, including passenger ships, workboats, leisure boats, and inland vessels. It enables clean onboard power generation without relying on traditional diesel generators.
What is a marine generator?
A marine generator is a system designed to produce electricity onboard a vessel. Unlike land-based generators, it is specifically engineered to withstand harsh marine conditions such as humidity, salt corrosion, vibrations, and continuous operation.
It powers onboard systems such as navigation equipment, lighting, air conditioning, safety systems, and passenger services.
New-generation solutions like hydrogen-powered marine generators significantly reduce emissions and noise while improving overall energy efficiency.
How does the EODev REXH₂ work?
The REXH₂ is powered by an integrated Toyota fuel cell system that uses hydrogen to generate electricity.
The process works as follows:
- hydrogen reacts with oxygen from the air
- this reaction produces electricity
- the only by-products are heat and water vapor
The system can be integrated into a hybrid onboard energy architecture alongside batteries or shore power, allowing optimized energy management.
Its modular design ensures easy integration across different vessel types and operational needs.
Why choose a marine hydrogen power generator?
Zero-emission navigation
Unlike diesel generators, hydrogen-powered systems produce no CO₂, NOx, or particulate emissions during operation, supporting maritime decarbonization goals.
Silent operation
With no combustion involved, noise levels are significantly reduced, improving onboard comfort and enabling use in sensitive or regulated areas.
Future-proof solution
As environmental regulations in the maritime sector become stricter, hydrogen-based systems provide a sustainable alternative aligned with future standards.

Marine generator vs standard generator: what’s the difference?
A marine generator differs from a land-based generator in several key aspects:
- designed for marine conditions (salt, humidity, vibration)
- equipped with specific cooling systems (heat exchangers)
- meets strict marine safety and certification standards
- built for continuous operation
Hydrogen solutions like REXH₂ go further by eliminating combustion entirely, reducing emissions, noise, and maintenance requirements.
Applications of hydrogen marine generators
REXH₂ is designed for a wide range of marine applications:
- passenger vessels
- workboats
- inland waterway transport
- leisure boats
- port service vessels
- hybrid propulsion and onboard energy systems
These use cases address real needs such as clean onboard power generation, reduced emissions in port areas, and silent operation at berth.
Marine generator price: what to expect
The price of a marine generator depends on several factors:
- required power output
- system configuration
- onboard integration constraints
- marine certifications and standards
- maintenance and operational requirements
Hydrogen solutions are typically priced on a project basis, reflecting system customization and total cost of ownership benefits, including reduced fuel consumption and maintenance.
Lifespan and maintenance of a marine generator
The lifespan of a marine generator depends on operating conditions, maintenance practices, and technology.
Traditional combustion systems require regular servicing due to wear, deposits, and corrosion. Hydrogen fuel cell systems reduce these constraints by eliminating combustion, potentially extending system lifespan and reliability.
A sustainable marine energy solution
REXH₂ is part of a new generation of clean maritime energy solutions.
It helps reduce environmental impact, improve onboard comfort, and support the transition toward low-carbon marine operations.
As a hydrogen-based alternative to diesel generators, it opens the way for more sustainable and efficient hybrid energy systems.
